A reminder to MX 17/18 users that debian has ended LTS support for the debian 9 “stretch” series as of Jun 30, 2022, and as such MX has ended support for MX 17/18 series as well. The repository will remain up for now, but will no longer receive updates.
Users are encouraged to move to our latest stable series, MX 21.

Would the system I have be able to handle MX21?
probably. I’m not sure about your nvidia card. you can always boot live usb and see. there are antiX 4.9 and 4.19 kernels available in mx-packageinstaller as well in case you need an earlier kernel.
now that i saw, sorry about repetitive. Sure, maybe antix(kernel or OS on host) is the solution.
maybe antiX?
I have that same computer, I would recommend you to stay on MX 18 or install Debian LXDE which is the system that that same computer has.
Should be able to handle it perfectly fine! I still have a Core 2 Duo system I use as an HTPC and it runs very well (though it has a Radeon HD3850 1GB…but still, I imagine it would still run great.
Tried MX21 and AntiX21 on my Core2Duo laptop. Bootup was VERY slow for both OSes. MX19.1 seems to run just fine on my system though.
Sorry for replying on old post.
I’m on pentium dual core with less than 4G ram and it works fine on MX21. Although the ram usage is a bit more than when I was using MX19 (with single core P4) though. I haven’t used MX17/18 (as I was an ubuntu user before).
I’m running MX-19 on a Intel Atom nv450 with two Gb and MX-21 on a !.66 Ghz Celeron with 4 gig of ram. I have cheap SSD drives in both. These are by no means speedy laptops but they are usable. If I had a core two duo I would try MX-21.
The people in the comments seems want to stay in the older versions like MX 18 and 19. Im just asking if older version is more lightweight than MX 21 or their device don’t support the current kernel of MX 21 which is 5.10?
Newer = slower.

@Enigmatic Lips maybe you should try MX21 32bit fluxbox. Should much lighter
The new kernel and the os may not support your computer hardware. So what happens , the community or the company just stopped the old versions to support the new one . This is the old school business system. As you see , if you want the very good mobile that was running 5 years ago, the it is not available today.
