We are pleased to offer MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 for testing purposes.

MX-19.2 KDE is an Advanced Hardware Support (AHS) enabled 64-bit only version of MX featuring the KDE/plasma desktop. Applications utilizing Qt library frameworks are given a preference for inclusion on the iso.

This will be first officially supported MX/antiX family iso utilizing the KDE/plasma desktop since the halting of the predecessor MEPIS project in 2013.

MX-19.2 KDE includes the usual MX tools, antiX-live-usb-system, and snapshot technology that our users have come to expect from our standard flagship Xfce releases. Adding KDE/plasma to the existing Xfce/MX-fluxbox desktops will provide for a wider range user needs and wants.

KDE/plasma 5.14.5 (current Debian buster version)
GIMP 2.10.12
MESA 20.0.7 (AHS)
MX AHS firmware package
Debian (AHS) 5.6 kernel
Browser: Firefox 78
Video Player: VLC 3.0.11
Music Manager/Player: Clementine 1.3.1
Email client: Thunderbird 68.9
Office suite: LibreOffice 6.1.5 (plus security fixes) (6.4 available in MX-Packageinstaller->Popular Apps)

and more in the MX repositories.

Known issues with beta:

When setting up the wireless network connection, users will need to edit the connection profile and check “All users may connect to this network” so that auto connection will happen on subsequent reboots.

Some users with intel video chipsets may need to use “i915.invert_brightness=1” boot code as some machines apparently have brightness values backwards in the driver. There are live menu options for that code.

The manual has not been updated to reflect KDE/plasma edition yet.

The beta will receive updates over time through the repositories, but certain items, such as the live system and some user settings defaults, will not be obvious without some user intervention.

  1. I have just downloaded it. Now i am writing this comments from live booted version, I wanted to say thanks to MX Linux team. It is really a great effort, almost latest kernel, kde version is slightly bit behind from kde neon&Manajro but over all great work, Congratulation for this. Tomorrow i will install this on my work machine worthy thing to enjoy summer holidays as due to coved19 cannot travel anywhere.

    • Roger that !!! I agree with Hussain Zafar. Although I just installed it on my personal desktop and it is looking/functioning great on a Dell OptiPlex 3060.

Thank you for your hard work!

      Sincerely,

      Bryan

  2. Bonjour,
Je ne comprends pas cet engouement pour l’environnement. Je lis que KDE sur MX est en retard par rapport à Neon ou Manjaro. Mais ce n’est pas la même base de construction.
MX me convient.

  3. Dear Developers
With MX you have done a fantastic work already and I really do hope you will keep the XFCE as your flagship DE. I know it is a matter of preferences, but XFCE is soo linear, easy, fast and stable … I could not work without it! I never had a crash, a break, a conflict, not even a problem … ever!
    Compliments!

  4. KDE is the most superior desktop for professionalism, options, uniformity and look whilst also being good on resources. I wouldn’t even entertain using anything else and I’d never use Gnome which to me is nothing but a resource hog and looks childish. I would have never have looked at MX Linux without KDE. I’m a Manjaro KDE fanboy but I’m willing to try out an MX system and see if anything improves my work flow.

  5. I use MX on some of my older machines and it runs fantastic. On my main lappy I use KDE based distro. This is exciting. I hope you can update it to Plasma 5.19.2 in the near future.

  8. I installed it on my harddrive. It is amazing! I was using Kubuntu but on my hardware it was a bit laggy so I moved to MX Linux. MX was way faster but I was missing KDE. Then over a week ago I decided to give this a shot. And here I am, it is a faster KDE experience on my old laptop! There is still much to go as it is slightly behind the current plasma release. I hope it keeps the continious support.

  9. With this beta 1 version, I met a problem. When I connect my android phone via a USB cable, I cannot copy a video and paste it to pc. It tried a lot of times but failed. I believe you will fix it

  10. Me agrada mucho la idea de aplicar el entorno KDE Plasma.

Pero quisiera pedirles que también esté disponible para 32 bits, es uno de los poco S.O. Linux que aún cuentan con dicha arquitectura, por favor, muchas gracias.
