We are pleased to offer MX-19 Beta 1 for testing purposes.

Updated packages

The latest updates from debian 10 (buster), antiX and MX repos.

Xfce 4.14

GIMP 2.10.12
MESA 18.3.6
updated firmware
4.19.5 kernel

Browser: Firefox 68
Video Player: VLC 3.0.8
Music Manager/Player: Clementine 1.3.1
Email client: Thunderbird 60.8.0
Office suite: LibreOffice 6.1.5 (plus security fixes)

and more in the MX repositories.

–New and updated mx-apps

formatusb, for formatting usb storage devices
mx-packageinstaller now displays version number for flatpak applications.
mx-alerts package for sending emergency messages to users.
tons of misc. updates to the mx tools.
most help files are now available on the iso

-antiX live system changes

The latest antiX live system updates, included improved support for hyper-v and kvm.
improved support for frugal installations on ntfs devices
live system now boots with a informative text-based boot splash.

Improved localization
almost all mx-apps received translation updates (we love translators, and BTW we are looking for a new translations co-coordinator)

Misc.

sysVinit remains the default init system. systemd is available as a boot option on installed systems (but not on live systems). In other words, exactly the same as MX17/18.

Set your gtk scaling in Appearance, log out/log in and Qt apps should follow the scaling set.

New conky configs (conky-manager for selections)

Known issues with beta:

some users with intel video chipsets may need to use “i915.invert_brightness=1” boot code as some machines apparently have brightness values backwards in the driver.

The beta will receive updates over time through the repositories, but certain items, such as the live system and some user settings defaults, will not be obvious without some user intervention.

Please place any general feedback here: MX-19 Beta 1 Feedback thread

  1. Testing 19-Beta-1 on my Acer Aspire One Netbook. Quite fast foran old machine!

Some windows (MXTools) are too high for the screen, Maybe some/one of dev’s could look into that? Maximum height 550 pixels, for instance. Scrolling works, so give it a try…

  2. To Dolphin Oracle, can the beta ISO be run in UEFI machines without having to disable secureboot? Debian 10 can do that, I think, so can MX19 Beta 1 do the same? Just to make sure I can boot into it properly, thank you.

  3. Vertical dark band using my Canolide 100 scanner with LMCE 19, 19.1 caused me to desert LMCE. I haven’t had a chance to test MX 18.3 or 19beta on the scanner but when I get back to my home I will. They are working wonderfully on my Dell Latitude laptop.

  6. Hello,
When the final version comes out, will we be able to upgrade from the beta version to the final release? or will it be necessary to reinstall?
    Thanks.
P.S. I have been distro hopping since a few months, and I always keep coming back to MXLinux. The only complaint I have is that the apps aren’t available in more recent versions. Now I do understand that the newer versions of apps must be totally free of bugs before being available in MXLinux repositories…

  8. I guess it’s about time that I noticed this!

MX 18.3 has been superb. Just put MX-19 Beta 1 on a USB stick and I am testing it now. I put the hardware information on the forum Beta 1 testing page; all is going well, no issues on thus far. I typically do not run into many issues with Debian-based software, and both antiX and MX Linux have similarly excellent results on my system.

  11. OK!

  12. What is it with the number 19 and LINUX?
LMCE 19 19.1 19.2 as well as LM xfce introduced a vertical dark strip when using my Canolide 100 scanner. This was blamed on Ubuntu.
I switched to LMDE and the strip ceased to exist. One up for Debian.
Then I experimented with MX 18 and again no vertical strip.
However when MX 19 beta became available the strip re-appeared.
So much for blaming Ubuntu. Debian now shares the scanner fault.
I have become used to Linux MX 18 and 19 (don’t see much difference) but I hope this scanner problem can be eliminated.

  13. Downloading and will install as a full system rather than via a virtual drive. Been very pleased with MX versions thus far and I’m looking forward to testing this latest beta version.
