MX-21_ahs (Xfce) Release Candidate 3 now available for testing purposes

October 27, 2021

MX-21_ahs (Advanced Hardware Support) (Xfce) series RC3 iso images for testing.

Quick Note: Please don’t ask what happened to RC2, it was released very briefly and had a build problem so it was pulled down the same day it was released. A handful of downloads did occur though, so we bumped the release number to RC3.

–direct downloads:

64 bit Xfce with 5.14.0-3 kernel sha256_checksum md5_checksum signature

Changes since MX-21_ahs RC1

Updated installer
Updated 5.14.0-3 kernel, which hopefully addresses some issues with resume from suspend for some users, particularly intel video chipset users.
Any updated packages since release of MX-21.

Known issues: resume from suspend works better when suspend is triggered from menu or logout dialog rather than via laptop lid switch. Laptop lid switch works OK if screen locking is disabled. The debian 5.10 kernel works better for some users than the 5.14 kernel.

Feedback for testing should be via forum post:

MX-21_ahs_rc3 feedback thread (Xfce)

Be sure to include proper system data, including the output of quick-system-info.
If posting nvidia-installer (ddm-mx) issues, please post the contents of /var/log/ddm.log.
If posting remaster issues, please include the contents of /var/log/live/live-remaster.log
If posting installer issues, please include the contents of /var/log/minstall.log
If posting issues with MX-PackageInstaller “Popular Apps”, please post contents of /var/log/mxpi.log or /var/log/mxpi.log.old (whichever contains the log of your issue).

I’m not particularly interested in package install issues unless there is a depend conflict with AHS repo.

Thank you!

  1. Just want to say that seeing how there were update problems and how such things can drag out, you have really done a great job getting to Ahs RC3 so fast.

    Kudos!!

(There are no emoticons what I can see, so after one rose and a purple heart, just feel free to fill them in)

  2. Sir don’t worry about small issues, Of course they are going to get fixed in next few days.
What we appreciate most is the spectacular effort that has gone is making this Distro.
The testimony lies in highest rank on distrowatch hit ranking.
MX is really impressive and daunting. The snapshot feature is simply unmatched.
    Just a suggestion:
Have you ever considered Cinnamon desktop version of this distro.
Can it be better alternative than KDE plasma

      • I don’t agree. Given KDE being corporate (last check). KDE is still a good alternative. and as far as I i know the only non-gtk environment. I think it shpiöd remain for those who want something different. Personally I use XFCE, but it’s healthy with healthy variation.

  3. Hi
    Dear MX Linux Develops Team,
Please say to me Panel’s clock why add for faster second pin alphabetic symbol %?

    %d %B %A %X + %… add this symbol?? [super faster seconds]

  4. I am an XFCE fan. If I was about to switch from XFCE for another desktop I would rather consider Budgie as best alternative which seems to have a good balance between UX and performance.

BTW, I have been running MX21 full time for a couple weeks now and it works like a charm. Congrats to the team.

I am running MX Linux 19.4 AHS Xfce. This is a great system.

Now I installed MX-21_ahs (Xfce) RC3 for testing:
    -Version-
    Kernel: Linux 5.14.0-3mx-amd64 (x86_64)
    Version: # 1 SMP Debian 5.14.12-1 ~ mx21 + 1 (2021-10-18)
    C Library: GNU C Library / (Debian GLIBC 2.31-13 + deb11u2) 2.31
Distribution: Debian GNU / Linux 11 (bullseye)

I want to say a huge thank you to the development. Very comfortable. A very reliable, very beautiful system.
The only thing that bothers me is the error:
“Could not instalize SDL whis ScreenHandle (65844): No available Video device”.
The error appears when working with “wine”. Version wine-6.20
MX Linux 19.4 AHS Xfce does not have this bug.

  7. Hello MX Team, my first MX was 16 and i was very impressed of it after about 50 or 100 Linux installs and experience as Linux user for about 15 Years.
Since then i used it at home and in my office with much pleasure without greater problems.
Of course, i had to test mx-21, as soon as possible (best time is quarantime :))
My impression for 2 weeks is good and i like the docklike taskbar very much!
Thank you for your fantastic work!

  8. Anyone else having issues getting things back to normal after WinDoZe decides to trash the MX boot process. I swear, that’s the last time I reinstall anything because of Microsoft. From now on it’s MX and Virtualbox for any software I can’t find on Linux (which isn’t much these days).

This OS is great. I jumped from OS to OS for about 6 months before landing on this one. Nice work.
