Installer improvements/bugs

Version:

  • MX-16

Tracker:

  • Bug

Status:

  • Open

Priority:

  • Normal

Additional Information:

It was pointed out over at antiX forums that the installer is not able to install on a partition if you boot from another partition on the same drive (ie frugally).

eg Frugal/fromiso boot from sda2 hoping to install on sda1 will fail.

In installer we call

Comment:

In installer we call partition-info with "--exclude=boot" on purpose to exclude boot drive. So we could simply remove that, but that has a purpose... or if BitJam can add some logic to partition-info to not exclude boot drive if booting frugally/from-iso.

Found another bug and a fix.

Comment:

Found another bug and a fix. If user choses xfs file system then the installer fails. This is because the root partition is named with a hyphen, so if we change it from mxroot-17 to mxroot17 (or whatever) then xfs can be used as a file system

Encryption

Comment:

A number of users have asked about an encryption option, at least for /Home. I wouldn't use it myself, but think it would be a great addition if possible to do.

Always install grub to root

Comment:

BitJam thinks that the installer should always install to the root partition even if MBR or ESP is chosen.

There does not appear to be any downsides to doing this.

Always install grub to root

Comment:

For clarification: I assume install to root is additional to install to MBR or ESP.
