Re: Rage against the systemd 'machine'

The name; good Lord. They could call it Lennart's Corporate Surprise for all that it matters, providing it's not under the hood. The GPL and the fact that it's a GNU effort should more than make up for that. Anyway, thanks Tim. I dimly get that there would be a whole lot of porting necessary ... pro...

Re: Rage against the systemd 'machine'

Reading tonight's Distrowatch: https://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20190624 They reviewed Guix, and made brief mention in the review of something called The GNU Shepherd. https://www.gnu.org/software/shepherd/ " ... It provides a replacement for the service-managing capabilities of SysV-init (o...

Re: antiX19a2 (xfce, openbox and more?) personal project(s)/ test

Hiya Mark, I'd take the alpha link with gratitude, and pay back with an install to the metal and some numbers from there, time permitting. (VirtualBox doesn't float my boat very high.) As for what to include, I'd be all for as light as possible to start, even though I'd probably add back a good perc...

Don't forget Artix (it's where openrc manjaro went...)
It wasn't exactly forgetfulness. Long story. : )

But I will say that the other tab I have open in my browser right now is their downloads page, so things are always subject to change in the face of change, ennit?

Re: Systemd free MX19?

Some of the logic in this thread escapes me. I was an early adopter of Manjaro mainly because the OpenRC version was quite perfect. When they decided it wasn't going to be supported, I jumped ship and came to MX. For my purpose it was the closest thing to the dead distro I loved. systemd is not the ...

Re: Many problems installing MX Linux alonside Windows 10

Ooh, could you give us "Quick System Info" from the menu? I might have some tweaks you can use for an even better experience. I'm honored by the request. A small way to give back. Thanks for asking. System: Host: mx1 Kernel: 4.19.0-1-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 6.3.0 Desktop: Xfce 4.12.3...

Re: Many problems installing MX Linux alonside Windows 10

Unrelatedly related .... I looked into the whole MSI laptop thing based on recommendations here, and a week ago I bought one. I had fifteen days to make it work before having to give up, reinstall my carefully saved Windows Recovery thing, and take it back. Today was the real make it or break it day...

Re: Nano She Very Old (SOLVED and then some; team rocks)

Informal update, for Stevo: Your advice got me researching hard. I ended up pulling the trigger on an MSI GF series, it being the least expensive I could find, at almost the same specs as the Galago, but half the price. There was no integrated graphics option, 'cause they're 'gaming laptops', so I g...
