Re: when will Antix 19 stable get released?

Getting closer - beta3 just been released. :)

P.S. Others distros have seen some problems when people have tried to dist upgrade from Stretch to Buster, it isn't advisable. ;)

Re: How swap space is used in Linux and Unix

As long as you have enough ram to cover your computer use needs, you don't need any swap, but if you do work that requires a lot of ram use, compiling big programs/intensive video work, etc, then you'd better have some. probably the equal of the amount of ram you have installed. Me? I used to get aw...

Re: What Linux Needs To Do To Reach The Masses.

Mass appeal?

Like pulseaudio & systemd, or maybe IBM/RedHat.

Seems to me 'we' lose out, things get changed to suit businesses that like to charge money for service contracts.

Luckily there are still the BSDs to fall back upon, when it all goes pear shaped..... :cool:

Re: Best Distro for an Old Laptop

I'm presently running MX on a dual 1GHz/2GB ram notebook & it's fine for normal stuff, a little bit slow starting up, loading large programs, & web browsing, but perfectly usable. :happy:

Edit: I did remaster it, it took about 40mins, if I remember. :cool:

Does the ram used on one version include cache, & not on the other(?).

Re: MX-18.3_x64 How partition ?

Best to re partition - create a / of about 10GB, (a swap partition equal to your ram if you intend to use a laptop with suspend, otherwise not essential if you have 2GB or more ram), & a seperate /home partition, then you can update the system & reuse your /home without fear of losing it, (it is alw...

Re: antiX-17.4.1 now out

AntiX is more 'old school', uses window managers instead of a complete desktop environment, keeps you closer to the system, instead of hiding everything under a GUI, (requires a certain amount of command line usage). It is built for use on older systems in mind, those with less resources, so uses li...

Re: antiX-19-b2-full (64 and 32 bit) available

With two sound cards alsamixer > F6 should let you choose your sound card, & I think aslactrl store will make it permanent.

If not, creating a .asoundrc should do the trick.

pcm.!default {
type hw
card 1
}

ctl.!default {
type hw
card 1
}

Save it, log out & back in, & you should be good to go.
