Re: What opinion do you have on the Cloud?

If I loose the data due to theft, fire, flood, storm, that's OK, I can live with that. For me to actually loose the lot, it would really have to be the total devastation fire, flood type of thing. So, total devastation happens with great regularity. You should do something about it. That doesn't ne...

Re: What opinion do you have on the Cloud?

To demystify, "the cloud" is nothing more than non-local network resources. It could be applications, storage, shared files, and the like. "The cloud" is a marketing term used to obfuscate something simple to seem to give it value beyond the apparent tangible product. You can use such non-local netw...

Re: leaving Google Mac business Internet

like to get some idea's on how to populate MX and get a more protected email address and safe web access. Best way may be to start your own domain and use your providers email servers, or run your own. But, free privacy oriented 5 Gig email at vivaldi.net quite reliable and nice. Somewhat undiscove...

Re: Access my USB stick

The dot, aka ., in the usb flash drive's root directory, i.e. /path/to/stick/. represents the whole stick's root directory. If you own the dot, you own the stick, so your user can write to it with user permission. People don't usually see the dot because dots and filenames that begin with dot are hi...

Re: "Partial installation" of MX?

Re: OEM installation.

This could be tricky with a fresh new user who didn't know what hit them. Be sure to give them an accompanying installation USB or DVD with a little instruction guide to use after they screw up on first boot.

Re: Access my USB stick

Format stick ext2/3/4. Example (and be careful): mkfs.ext4 /dev/partition Where partition = sdb1 (Make sure that is your USB stick and not your second hard drive.) Then: chown user:group /path/to/stick/. Yes, that's a dot at the end. From that point on you will own the stick and be able to read/writ...

Re: Brave browser

Brave doesn't support Debian. MX is based on Debian. Why are y'all so eager to break your MX installations? Brave doesn't care about you. Firefox with Privacy Badger + /etc/host advert blocking, and/or Vivaldi.

Re: What are your first steps after installing MX Linux?

The first step after successfully installing MX, the user should gloat and bask in the glory of their accomplishment. Nothing needs to be done. Enjoy it, use it, look around and learn it. Don't be too quick to try to break it.

Re: When does MX 19 will be released?

Just another user chiming in saying that MX is built on a base of Debian stable. Debian is not a rolling distribution. This is a major contributor to MX's stability. You can have rolling, or stable. Must pick one. Stable is golden.

Re: Bad News For Chrome Users

So Chrome's position is to "limits the amount of sensitive browser data shared with third parties." That's a very low standard. Don't use it. Claw back control of the Internet by Google, one step at a time.
