I got hold of a monitor 'speedometer 2.8' it shows the thru put wlan0 and I am getting at max 300 or 400 KiB/s (yep KiB/s) but the majority is B/s eg.323 B/s but there is also large gaps where it is 0 b/s....I tried to add a screenshot but could not figure out how to attach a local image....still lo...
Hi again...another piece to the puzzle.....connected to ethernet and worked perfectly....so it looks like definitely is something with the wifi interface.....looking for a tool or appropriate terminal commands to do some settings.....thanks
Thanks to all for your advice I will work my way thru the suggestions....I am reluctant to block content as I mentioned in the original post the laptop is for an elderly friend and he won't know why stuff is not showing ie. Videos......Again thanks I will advise if I have any luck.....
Hi JayM.....my problem is not the opening speed it is fine it is when you navigate to sites and the page loads are painfully slow and often don't load at all....I have now tried several 'lightweight' browsers and they all perform the same.....When I search from google the results page loads fine but...
Thanks for your advice I have upped the ram no result in the browser speed though....The network device is compatible but I believe it is this device that is throttling my browser performance...I am not sure if there are settings I can tweak...Also there are a lot of settings in Firefox maybe someth...

Hi again, I have been setting up an old (32bit) laptop with Antix....All is good a really smart and intuitive distro. My only issue at the moment is the browser performance is almost non existent. I have tried a couple of browsers including Firefox and the page either do not load or take and age.......
