@Adrian: Thanks. Perhaps, as a stopgap, change the wording from a pretty threatening Fatal Error to a less menacing Warning ;)
I don't control that script, but I changed how I execute it to execute it only if that .conf file is present. The upgrade should come shortly from the repo.

Re: Data Utilization

In general the browser use of data should not vary between distros, but I guess how many times you do apt-get update and how many packages get upgraded might influence the total bandwidth use.

Re: MX Snapshot: Spurious? error message

For now can you please ignore that error, I called that script twice to make sure it gets called, I have a "clean up" that calls it and I also call it when I finish the snapshot, so the message shows because the script was already executed. I will have to find a better way to deal with that.

Re: Reinstalled MX and encrypted /home and /root... and now it's saying the update repository is not signed...?

Try:

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude install antix-archive-keyring=20019.3.13~mx17
Then "apt-get update" again and then you can upgrade antix-archive-keyring without that error

Re: Linux 5.0 Release

Not only noticed, I compiled and run it :)

But as it says in the article Linus said “The numbering change is not indicative of anything special. If you want to have an official reason, it’s that I ran out of fingers and toes to count on, so 4.21 became 5.0”.

Re: Need some scripting help

That's because that "Exec=" line if for a .desktop file not for running it in the terminal.

Re: Need some scripting help

I think you can also use something like: xfce4-terminal -e '/path/to/mycommand' if you have in "mycommand" script something like this at the end: read -n 1 -s -p $"Press any key to close" That's what we use in "Quick System Info" that actually runs 'inxi -Fxrz' in a new terminal. Not much advantage ...

Re: File /etc/machine-id Security and Privancy Concern

I don't think it updates /etc/machine-id, it probably just checks if it exists if it doesn't it creates it, to my knowledge it doesn't touch the other d-bus file.
