Within MX Linux yad is pre-installed. [/quote] Thanks fehlix! I wasn't sure about how the updates were manage...

Re: SoftMaker Free Office now available

I too have begun using this to see what it's like. So far the only thing I miss is the single launcher for the Office Suite (like LibreOffice variants offer). Anyway I built one using YAD; I have made the code available to anyone who might like it. You will need to install YAD available fro...

Re: SoftMaker Free Office now available

I just downloaded a copy of freeoffice on another distro and noticed they no longer ask for an email to send you a registration key--it just installs like normal via software center or using gdebi. Also a couple of Textmaker tips: Under Tools-Options-Files menubar you can set default format for Text...

Next problem is no sound.....but that can wait. ;)

Just got it to install grub, thanks for your help, it was the boot flags that did it. :number1:

Now for a decent 'chrome' book experience... ;)
That's awesome :)

Re: Dedoimedo to Xfce 4.14: meh

Mine is hot .... :number1: :number1: There is simply no comparison - try it, you are a co-conspirator, baby - whether you like it or not Jack https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-kde-iso/files/ They must have improved Plasma a lot since I last used it. Even Adrian's KDE respin is slower than Xfce. I...

Re: Dedoimedo to Xfce 4.14: meh

I do sometimes get the feeling that gnome with gtk3 doesn't really care about a lean desktop or worry about bloat. This could be an issue for a DE like Xfce that is known for being fast and lean. I've seen MATE pick up in ram use as it moved to gtk3. Plasma is is proving how a rather formidable DE c...

If anyone would like to check out MX-18.3 with Trinity (shameless plug)...
That's pretty neat. I think I'm just too used to Plasma now.

Re: Chromebooks

Thanks for the hints KBD, I wasn't to sure about whether I needed to use the boot flags, but I think I tried to add boot to the DOS partition, but it wouldn't take, I presumed because it wasn't a Linux filesystem, but didn't think to activate esp , I'll give that a try next. I think it is creating ...
