Re: CD label

I might add that linux generally has a jungle of esoteric names, from repositories to releases, the latter being hard for newbies to identify as the latest stable version for their 32/64 bit etc machine. Linux mint was one I recently encountered that seemed more confusing thatn usual with names like...

Re: M12 11.9.92

"In System>Processor, tick the PAE box. This is found in the VM VirtualBox Manager." Worked a treat thanks. I encountered another glitch in install where the partitioning and preparation of the drive fails and reverts to the previous screen for some reason, possibly a VB related issue? Not sure. Ha...

Re: Would Linux users be more likely to be aware of NSA devi

'Fridge hacked and sending spam' was one of the more curious items in today's news and I recall reading of an IT demo of hacking a pacemaker I think it was, or a similarly vital medical device from close proximity, recently. I guess all the 'smart' devices on the 'internet of things' are equally vul...

Re: M12 11.9.92

Well, out of interest, in both M11 and xp under VirtualBox, I get a live cd screen and options per usual using the latest M12 Beta live DVD *.iso (SimplyMEPIS-1.5G_11.9.92_32.iso) but are then informed that: This kernel requires the following features not present on your CPU: pae Unable to boot - pl...

Re: M12 11.9.92

So essentially, it looks like a minor revision is available for me in 32 bit based on the Mepis pages and I've been looking for something called 'Mepis 12.x ' but this isn't the case until the beta becomes, well, no longer beta., I take it, as a newly enlightened student of linux, hopefully. Perhap...

Re: M12 11.9.92

Took me a bit of thought to identify what I currently run (SimplyMEPIS-DVD_11.0.12_32) per the live DVD version.* file. A new test release of MEPIS 12, version 11.9.86, is available for testing. <http://www.mepis.org/node/176> Light bulb moment I hope....Downloading..... SimplyMEPIS-1.5G_11.9.92_32....

Re: M12 11.9.92

I was curious about wireless card internet support in M 12 but more generally, seeing some appear to use it contentedly, others with seeming glitches, of trying initially under Vbox (being convenient) to familiarise, then install fully in conjunction with the M 11 I'm happily using now, by some logi...

Re: Blank check from Warren

Just a quick comment on file mirrors that may also apply more generally. Australia, ISP Bigpond (and others perhaps) allows unmetered downloads from: http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/ currently offering links to (cut/paste): Firefox & Thunderbird Linux Mint Centos VideoLAN CPAN/Perl TED Talks Kernel.Org ...

Adopting applications like open office and firefox in the first instance seem to be one of the strategies in this migration.
