Re: What opinion do you have on the Cloud?

Aren't servers getting smaller, requiring less power over time? I expect that trend will continue.

Re: What opinion do you have on the Cloud?

Without a dramatic reduction in the energy required to both maintain cloud services and keep them sufficiently cool, a significant proportion of the global power generation capacity will increasingly service this purpose. It is simply unsustainable. I understand the convenience of access and seamles...

Re: Netbook Display: windows exceeding dimensions

I use the right "alt" key, which while holding down allows you to drag the window. I also use fluxbox and antiX on such machines. which has a setting to remember resized windows automatically. very handy. I occasionally get a gtk3 window that is too big even on my 1600x900 screen, so the right alt ...

Netbook Display: windows exceeding dimensions [Solved]

I've been working on a Toshiba netbook. The display is too small for windows like MX Tools and Orange Clock preferences, to give a couple of examples of instances where resizing is not possible and some portions remain inaccessible. With inxi -F posted below, I wonder if anyone has similar issues an...

Re: Any other readers here?

I enjoyed the Flashman novels for their ribald and historical content. Ripping yarns, you might say. There is one set in Madagascar (I think, or Mauritius) where he ends up in the queen's rather personal service. Lately I've read many of the early accounts of exploration in Australia, most recently ...

Re: MX NOT Living Up To The Hype

I have long used a shared Data partition, when dual booting with MS and since using Linux exclusively. By habit I use a NTFS format for this. So long as I auto-mount from each installed distro, the rest is easy. The bonus is that Linux installs can be more compact, not requiring large storage capaci...

Re: How to create Live USB with persistence

Watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoEKnI1x6Ok&feature=youtu.be will give you a good idea of how and what to expect when you want to enable persistence with a Live MX USB. I tend to use the F-5 persist all option when booting via a MX Live USB, which is also what I call the express approach to...

Re: What are your first steps after installing MX Linux?

Don't forget MX Tools-Tweak for some common adjustments like Panel orientation, Compositor options and single-double click. Checking 'Position categories next to panel button' in Whisker preferences-Behavior and optimising expanded menu size using the handle, then adding some preferred items to Favo...

Re: What was your first Linux distro?

I tried Red Hat around 1998, when I had a P100 running '95 (mature age tertiary student). It had been a while since I dabbled with basic using a Sinclair ZX-81 and fortran via a card reading unit during high school, so using new desktop systems and internet were still a learning curve. Partitioning ...

Re: Simple Scan glitches

After doing several score of photo scans this week again I had no problems with Simple Scan crashing as previously noted, so will mark as solved for now, assuming Synaptic updates over past weeks might have resolved the issue. One very minor observation is that Simple Scan does not appear in the Rec...
