Re: Fbreader inclusion request

At a first guess, the Jessie fbreader would add about 3.5 MB to an installed MX 15, and maybe 800 K to the ISO size. It's harder to say for Calibre 2.62, the latest in our test repo, since it has many extra dependencies. We'd have to run a test on a clean ISO to see how much it adds. Many MANY than...

Re: Fbreader inclusion request

The fbreader website says their plans include Windows & Linux updates - they list it after the planned iOS version to be released this fall.
It's also included in the latest 2 editions of the "everything but the kitchen sink" RPM distro Korora (23&24), and, I believe, LXLE.

Re: Fbreader inclusion request

calibre is in the mx-packageinstaller already. But it's not in the current .iso. Supposedly a person can make a snapshot of one's own installed and modified MX system, but apparently multi-boot grub confuses the snapshot tool included with MX, or at least it did for me. The snapshot I attempted to ...

Re: Fbreader inclusion request

Sorry about the Arch references--I couldn't seem to find file sizing info about the equivalents from MX. Well, there's always Calibre. Not only does it function as an ebook and comicbook reader of MANY different formats, but it can convert them to other formats--for example epub to pdf and vice-vers...

Re: Unofficial MX 15-64 KDE snapshot

Memory is only cheap if your damn system allows you to add it! Which most netbooks do not--beyond 2 GB that is. Therefore, MY PRIORITIES have to be the lightest resource usage possible while still remaining useful and useable. KDE and Gnome3 are comparable on my netbooks to running Windows 3.1 on a ...

Re: Fbreader inclusion request

if you were to choose an ebook reader to include in mx-package installer, which one would it be? For sheer versatility, Calibre can't be beat, but it takes up--according to the Arch website something like 96 MB of installed space (package size ~30 MB). Whereas FBReader takes up only 7.1 MB, with a ...

Re: Unofficial MX 15-64 KDE snapshot

I personally find KDE's stock interface...ANNOYING. Prefer XFCE. Not to mention the fact that KDE requires about 3 times the RAM to run it (as compared to XFCE). Memory Comparison--pay particular attention to the Bottom Bar Graph

Fbreader inclusion request

I have used MX-15 as a "Linux on a stick" way to introduce Linux to disillusioned Windows10 users. When I install it (usually onto circa 2010-2012 Atom-powered netbooks), I ALWAYS add fbreader and Conky (using the sparky-conky package), and the less resource hogging Pale Moon browser (using convolut...
