MX-17/18 - How to fix KDE from MXPI - a work in progress

IT'S NOT AS EASY AS I THOUGHT. READ WHOLE THREAD BEFORE DOING ANYTHING! I installed it on two different occasions. Theming was broken both times. What's wrong? Missing recommended packages? No, I found the answer on the forum. You need to modify /etc/X11/Xsession.d/98qtconfig so that KDE isn't affec...

Re: Audio volume control issue in MX

And those actually suffering from hearing loss are happy with the feature ;) In most countries it isn't allowed to drive a car without a seat belt, but some people think it's easier to drive without. And it actually is because the seat belt does nothing for usability. It's a safety feature. Your ma...

Re: Audio volume control issue in MX

Question: Can we have this by default? I see no use in using flat-volumes.... it prevents users from using louder volume than the machine can actually handle (beyond 100% thingies) and to raise awareness to hearing health issues , it's a second hand knowledge from forum-veteran on manjaro forum If ...

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

In this case: not yet – currently you cannot remove the pulseaudio package without loosing mx-apps and mx-system-sounds . Tested on MX-17.1. Greetings, Joe mx-system-sounds has a dependency on libcanberra-pulse. libcanberra-pulse has a dependency on pulseaudio. Consider the other back-end: mx-syste...

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

If I dislike PulseAudio - it's because I have suffered for ten years - driving me to Windows 7 in the process. If I had been a smarter guy maybe I would have figured out how to use Ubuntu without PulseAudio, but it was much trickier than MX Linux. Therein lies the greatness of MX Linux. MX Linux can...

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

Worked myself trough your how-to. Nearly everything works like a charm. Besides, for a reason I do not know, sound quality is many times better , and Twinkle crackling (see https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=51888) has disappeared. MX is the best PulseAudio experience I have had, but o...

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

I used to think that apulse ("PulseAudio emulation for ALSA") was made exactly for a scenario like that ? You need the correct launch command for Skype that first starts apulse. It could be as easy as apulse skypeforlinux but it didn't work and then I got tired and started asking myself questions l...

Re: MX-19 news?

We're actually working on a third alpha ATM. You may remember that we don't make the alpha cycle public. The shim does seem to be working, which is a great relief. There's a lot of work still to be done, but I think everyone would say that we are pretty happy with the results so far. OK, thanks. Wh...

MX-19 news?

Since I figure MX-19 alpha is at least two weeks away I just wanted to hear how development is going. 1. Is systemd-shim working? 2. Other major problems? 3. Personal wish: that Qt5 applications can be themed by GTK2 themes (like MX-17/18). Maybe it's just a config/setting that can be defined by use...

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

@all: I'm thinking about replacing PulseAudio (which, to my knowledge, is MX Linux's default sound server) by ALSA's own sound server . My question is what implications this would have – would there be any useage restrictions? Greetings, and thanks in advance for any answer, Joe Important: You don'...
