Re: upgrade can not be authenticated [SOLVED]

After several months, of non-use, I updated MX on my Gateway ec1803, an Acer Aspire 1410 clone, http://www.silentpcreview.com/Gateway_EC1803h_notebook . (I've upgraded RAM to 4G.) The MX install is pretty vanilla. I have only added the sshd server, x2go client, and VirtualBox, and someday intend to ...

Re: antiX19-xfce (a systemd free xfce desktop) Prototype

Your screenshots look great. Your RAM usage is about 100M higher than 18.3-x64. I don't have the human bandwidth to actually test this, but consider this encouragement to continue. Are you keeping good notes (break crumbs) on how you got where you are?

Re: AntiX vs. MX Kernels

lspci -v will give you useful output that you can capture and use to discover what's needed to make those two devices work for you. As computer makers produce machines, they will often change hardware make/versions, and not all Lenovo 330S laptops have the same hardware so it's important to know wha...

Re: AntiX vs. MX Kernels

I have a newer computer with a few "bugs" and I want to try updating the kernel. The MX Package Installer shows both antiX and MX kernel. Can I install AntiX kernels on my MX system? If it's in the MX Package Installer. That's the answer. Are you sure your "bugs" are kernel related? Do these bugs s...

I could go on and on ...
Yes, you could. You are an MX fan and have written a guide specific to MX. You should, therefore, put "MX" in the title.

Re: Just finished my e book which is all about encryption. Anyone whants to proofread?

Thank you for sharing. I read through your ebook. I'm sure this information will be helpful to some readers. It is generous of you to do this. At the core, you have some seriously useful ideas to hlep users reduce their risk. The ebook needs much proofreading. It was not yet in a state worthy of bei...

Re: Live Remaster error. The live file system is read only

I wonder if this is clear enough in the documentation. May be, in the Manual, MX Live Usb Maker should be the first item on section 6.6 as it is the key to allow all the other stuff, even before Live-usb kernel udpater. Read the manual, read the help screens, and especially watch the related videos...

Re: No sound on MX 18.2

Maybe you are muted or have low volume. It can be a little tricky with pluseaudio. In a terminal, launch alsamixer. Unmute and raise volumes. F6 to change sounds cards. Esc to exit. Use your arrow keys to more and raise/lower volume. M key to mute/unmute. Test with: play /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front...

Re: What init system do you use on MX, the default (sysVinit) or systemd?

I would prefer MX Linux to stay away from systemd heres my personal reasoning I have found that Systemd appears to require minimum 2.5GHZ Cpu's, 4gig ram, SSD's to be functional. I don't like systemd, but none of the reasons that you mentioned can be verified. Any increase in use system resources ...

Re: Simple .eml reader

I'd rather use Thunderbird than some proprietary cloud-based services that will scan my e-mails for profiling. Is there really no small software just for reading .eml's? Not that I can tell. Use Thunderbird. I've used Thunderbird since it was hatched out of the Netscape suite. I don't think you nee...
