Alternatively, it could be an item on the panel, like antiX does, but I think an icon on the desktop would be better marketing for the manual than on the panel, since the default panel is already busy enough. Actually, we have an icon on the 'desktop' Oops. Of course. I must be loosing my memory.
For clarity, I was contemplating the creation of a symbolic link /home/$USER/Desktop/ to the PDF. A symbolic link can carry any name, but the name should not be too long or it might wrap wonky or cut off, and it would be nice if it retained a professional appearance, like "User Manual" or "User Guid...

Your post is a bit inconsistent. Your hardware should work just fine. I assume you are running MS Windows since you mentioned Rufus, which is a Windows application. Are you unable to create the bootable USB from the downloaded ISO? You burn the MX ISO to a USB just like is done with the other distro...
