Re: wifi that no longer works

So can you remove the hp-wmi module? sudo modprobe -rv hp-wmi Or try blacklisting it: sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/hp-wifi_blacklist.conf <<<'blacklist hp-wmi' sudo update-initramfs -u -k all Then reboot. If blacklisting the hp-wmi module causes problems then remove /etc/modprobe.d/hp-wifi_blacklist.con...

Re: How to register networkwide adblocker Pi-hole's iP in MX?

There are several ways to change the nameservers used in MX. I would delete the /etc/resolv.conf symlink: sudo rm /etc/resolv.conf Then instruct NetworkManager to leave the file alone: sudo tee /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/dns.conf <<! [main] dns=none ! sudo service network-manager restart And finally...

Re: MX-17.1: Twinkle produces crackling sound output

I've solved the problem by uninstalling PulseAudio and replacing it by ALSA You haven't replaced PA with ALSA because PA runs on top of ALSA ;) And that's a workaround rather than a solution. Would it be possible to test my suggested fix and see if it works? Other people may suffer with this proble...

Re: wifi that no longer works

Does removing the hp-wifi module help? sudo modprobe -rv hp-wifi If it does then blacklist it and rebuild the initramfs: sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/hp-wifi_blacklist.conf <<<'blacklist hp-wifi' sudo update-initramfs -u -k all If there is no hp-wifi module then try hp-wmi instead (or grep the lsmod out...

Re: beginner need help with gpu driver

Debian sid had an AMD firmware update a couple of weeks ago, not sure if that's been added to MX yet:

https://packages.debian.org/sid/firmware-amd-graphics

If not then the .deb of that package should be "safe" to install in MX.

Re: the nice editor (ne)

Many years ago, I heard this line about EMACS: eight megabytes and constantly swapping There are a few comical acronym expansions for EMACS: https://www.gnu.org/fun/jokes/gnuemacs.acro.exp.html This is from ps_mem with all the editors open on the same file: 144.0 KiB + 82.5 KiB = 226.5 KiB ed 1.2 M...
