Re: NeoVim, Vim

I don't feel TOO?!?! dumb. Don't be silly, the tutor is a non-obvious command. But I'm not sure I approve of this thread: E485:~$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/editor lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Jul 24 17:07 /etc/alternatives/editor -> /bin/ed E485:~$ Ed is the standard text editor. :p

Code: Select all

 virtualbox : Depends: python3 (< 3.6) but 3.7.3-1 is to be installed
Why does your system expect v3.7.3-1 for python3? That's the Debian buster version and MX 18 is based on Debian stretch.

Can we see

Code: Select all

apt policy
Or that system information thingie that folks here like.

Re: MX-17.1: No check of boot partition's file system integrity when file system was btrfs

So apparently that's at least two of us here who observe this non-checking behaviour. Actually I use Debian rather than MX so I can't confirm your observations. FWIW, I don't have my root partition listed in /etc/fstab and the kernel mounts it with 0 in fs_freq & fs_passno: E485:~$ cat /etc/fstab /...

Re: http://security.debian.org/dists/stretch/updates/InRelease

Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/stretch/updates/InRelease Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. That site is accessed via a CDN so maybe it's acting up. You could try hitting it directly: deb https://cdn-aws.deb.debian.org/debian-sec...

Re: MX Linux and ATI

The open source amdgpu driver is much better than the "pro" (proprietary) version for 3D games:

What else is needed?
I had to disable Fast Start in Windows on my Lenovo laptop to get ISO images on USB sticks booting.

Re: How to access phone ?

Perhaps the cable and/or connector is broken.

FWIW, it's probably better to start an FTP server on the phone and use that to transfer stuff 'cos it will be quicker than a cable.

I use https://f-droid.org/en/packages/be.ppareit.swiftp_free, it's GPL'd

Re: http://security.debian.org/dists/stretch/updates/InRelease

It would help if we could see some actual error messages.

For example:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
apt install --simulate $package
Replace $package with the actual name of a troublesome package.
