Re: wifi that no longer works

Please locate the exact model number of your pavilion DV6 and post it here. It will be on the underside of your laptop and you may need a magnifying glass in order to read it.

Re: wifi that no longer works

On the HP Pavilion DV6, the wifi toggle switch is the F12 key. It may be necessary to hold down the Fn key while tapping the F12 key.

Re: New Linux User - Black Screen, Blinking Cursor!

I do think that it's time for you to try a different course, but not to another distribution. I think that you should dual boot MX and Win7 on your circa 2009 machine. Install your new ssd along side the existing hdd and then install MX on to the ssd.

Re: New Linux User - Black Screen, Blinking Cursor!

Does your motherboard have a VGA port? If so, you may have to enter the bios and disable it so that your NVidia AGP card will work. Note that some variants of your motherboard have a VGA port while others don't.

Access your bios and make sure that your hard drive is given first priority in the boot order. Also when you installed, did you ensure that Grub was installed to the MBR?

Re: MX tools - quick system info

According to the Lenovo forums, that Realtek wifi card is problematic from the get go. Their recommendation is to swap the card out for an Intel model.

Re: AMI BIOS 3.31a - Update Help

I think that things are getting a bit confused here. What are the specs of the circa 2002 machine that you intend to test linux on?

Re: AMI BIOS 3.31a - Update Help

First of all, I strongly doubt that you will be able to get the circa 2002 machine working in any kind of usable state. Second, on the circa 2009 machine definitely upgrade the amt of ram provided you can find a supply of PC2700/DDR333, PC2100/DDR266 or PC1600/DDR200 ram modules. After that has been...
