Re: A couple of niggles

Screenlets will work in any (or most) desktop environments. In this case it is xfce desktop and kwin as the window manager. And two window managers can't exist simultaneously. Kwin replaces Xfwm4. Do not confuse DE with WM. I believe the problem here is that autostart sequence tries to launch the se...

Re: A couple of niggles

Haven't used Kde in years, but here are some ideas about why.
It's not Kde but Xfce using Kwin as the window manager (instead of Compiz).
Screenlets. Probably because it is set up for LightDM?
Never had anything to do with LightDM. Screenlets work fine except that they don't autostart.

A couple of niggles

I've been living with these irritations for a while but it's time to seek solutions. As possible relevant background this MX-16 Xfce with Kwin (https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=100&t=41597). 1> The mouse pointer (white arrow) frequently changes to a black cross. This seems to be invoked whe...

Re: Icon placement

Icons can be placed anywhere on the virtual grid during session(s) but will join the others after a reboot. However, out of interest, I tried setting the icon-spacing values to 0 (as suggested in my earlier post #4 ) and placed an icon somewhere in the middle.where it will still snap to the nearest ...

Re: Icon placement

In my recent thread https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=93&t=44198 #7 you might like to try creating .gtkrc-2 .0 (copy and paste - from above link -into an editor then save into ~home ) and try playing with the icon-spacing values in the last section. Try setting them to 0 for instance? PS The...

Re: Desktop Icon Text

Thanks. Copied from Mint and that seems to have done the trick!

Not, sure about Plank as research indicates that it is more a dock for open apps and possibly quicklaunch but not system tray? I wonder if DockbarX plugin for Xfce might be what I crave...

Re: Desktop Icon Text

Try this:- in gtkrc-2.0 in home folder
But as I said, whilst I know the required tweaks, there is no gtkrc-2.0 in the home folder in MX and am not sure that creating one would do the trick.

Desktop Icon Text

Very happy with my MX16 setup but a couple of tweaks evade me. Is it possible to modify the desktop icon text to eliminate the "box"? In Mint one could edit gtkrc-2.0 and gtkrc-xfce which are hidden in the home folder. I feel that I have asked this before - perhaps as far back as MX14 - but can't tr...
