MX 18 runs a 4.19 kernel, you have an older 4.9 in antiX. The git repo says that 4.17+ kernels have the 8723de driver built in, but let me see if it's enabled.

What happens when you try and build the driver with just "make"?

Edit: I downloaded the driver zip and ran "make" successfully with the 4.19 kernel. You can get a 4.19 kernel easily in antiX, too.

@BitJam , @Stevo,

You are the greatest! The wifi method worked! Now I have wireless access. Thanks a lot!

Now I'll try upgrading the kernel to see if that takes care of the freezing.

Thanks a lot!! I'll report later.

antiX, with kernel 4.20 works perfectly after two tweaks:

1- Stevo's suggestion to enable wireless
2- BitJam's suggested tutorial to change the antenna of Wicd.

Apparently, the problem is kernel 4.19. But that wouldn't answer why Manjaro's kernel 4.20 gave me the same black screen that I got on antiX with 4.19.

Anyway, my system is running fine now so I'll mark this topic as solved. Thanks a lot! :happy:
