MX live usb maker error

#1

Post by turtlebay777 » Sat Feb 02, 2019 12:59 am

Using a newly formatted 8GB TDK USB stick (reported actual size 7.2GB) I was trying to make a copy using the Antix 17.3 base 64 iso. I tried several permutations of using 40, 50, 60, 70, 80,and100% using the full featured (for MX and Antix only) and kept getting the error encountered in the live USB creation process warning. It did work using the DD option but I really wanted to use the other one to leave room for persistence.
What am I doing wrong?

Not sure, try command line live-usb-maker you might see more error messages that way.

How do I do that, what commands?

I'm not looking for error messages, I want the tool to do what it says on the tin.

Adrian is a developer and is looking for more clues...he is asking you to run the app from the command line to help you debug the problem...just run the command from a terminal "sudo mx-live-usb-maker" and report the errors

Just to make sure, is the .iso file that you are using small enough to fit the 8 GB usb pendrive? The only error I've gotten while using that tool has happened because the image file was too large for the usb device.

With that stick inserted File Manager reports that 634MB are used.

In fact although live usb maker declared the job done with the DD option I just tried booting at it refuses to do anything.

I can make it work by burning the iso using the tool built into Mint 17.3 but not MX.

Trying the command line method now - will report back.

Here you go Adrian, hope this helps. I set it to use 100% of the stick but it failed again.

@ Adrian, just made it in Mint 17.3 also using the command line method with these results as a comparison

Code: Select all

pete@pete-Inspiron-1545 ~ $ sudo live-usb-maker
[sudo] password for pete:
sudo: live-usb-maker: command not found
pete@pete-Inspiron-1545 ~ $ sudo mintstick -m iso
Image: /media/pete/rootMX17.1/home/pete/Downloads/antiX-17.3.1_x64-base.iso
USB stick: /dev/sdb
Starting copy from /media/pete/rootMX17.1/home/pete/Downloads/antiX-17.3.1_x64-base.iso to /dev/sdb
The image was successfully written.

pete@pete-Inspiron-1545 ~ $

Thanks, although you didn't do what I asked for, I said run "live-usb-maker", not "mx-live-usb-maker"... if you run the CLI tool "live-usb-maker" directly we might get more useful info other than "Error code: 100"

Also, you need to run "live-usb-maker" inside MX, it's not a Mint tool, so not sure what you tried here:

Code: Select all

pete@pete-Inspiron-1545 ~ $ sudo live-usb-maker
[sudo] password for pete:
sudo: live-usb-maker: command not found
Please do that inside MX.
