(Solved) Having trouble setting up Korganizer in MX18

#1

Post by Topher » Thu May 30, 2019 11:08 pm

I want to import my calendar into Korgainzer but cannot. When I choose "Import Calendar" I get the pop-up to choose the file to be imported. At the bottom there is a drop down box to choose the type of file to show. But when I click on that there is nothing there to choose from so it cannot display any file for me to choose what to import, even though I have an mycal.ics file there waiting to be imported. I installed KDEPIM just so I wouldn't miss some code that was needed even though I only use the calendar part. I have had trouble setting up Korganizer before but that has been a long time ago and I can't remember what I did to get things working. Thanks for any help.

OK, I have it added, supposedly, but it doesn't show any events that are in the calendar. How do I get them to be shown?

I don't know. I use Xfce, not KDE. :)

Someone, I think it was Adrian, made a KDE respin of MX. Maybe he, or others who are using KDE and/or KDE apps on MX will be on the forum later and can help you. Sorry that I can't.

Edit: have you given the Orage calendar that comes with MX a try?

I am using MX. i tried the KDE version and everything KDE works well , but I have gotten used to the speed of MX and the KDE version of MX seemed a bit slow, so came back to MX. I got Koroganizer to get all my past history by copying the file to ~/.local/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics. But now when I go to add an event it gives me the error to "Select a valid collection first". I never ran into that before.

See if Orage calendar can import from your Korganizer file. I'm curious if it can or not. You can find it under Office in the menu.

I haven't really tried orage as it seemed limited. I have gotten used to what I can do with Korganizer. Color coding the different events to make them easier to see. And the search feature is really nice to pull past events quickly. But right now it is pretty late and i have a lot to do tomorrow, so will try to get back to this later on tomorrow evening.

OK, I was just curious to see if Orage could do the importation as I don't use calendars, while we were waiting for those more knowlegeable about using KDE tools on MX arrive in the forum.

This link is specific to Ubuntu but it may help:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/959437/ ... korganizer

Instructions from that Ubuntu post, modified for MX:
Right click on .ics file and on context menu choose open with, then open with other application and choose korganizer from the list of apps that appears
Choose NO when asked to merge things
Go to configurations menu and chose configure korganizer
On calendars tab choose new created calendar and choose modify
There is an option display name , put your calendar name there
Apply
Done
Here's a link to the Korganizer Handbook which may help also:
https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/pim/korg ... index.html

OK - Am back at it.
JayM - Thanks for the help. Right clicking on the .ics file and choosing Korganizer to open the file worked.
