CPU high usage in background by tumblerd-monitor

#1

Post by galen » Fri Aug 16, 2019 8:33 am

this last week I've been noticing my desktop is running hot both GPU & CPU fans at max, this is during idle.
The culprit is tumblerd-monitor.
it is suppose to stop runaway CPU usage caused by tumblerd.
no file manager, image viewer, thunar, browser are running, no cloud are running.
I'm unable to find any man on tumblerd-monitor or tumblerd

any solutions? or just wipe tumbler?

adding: tumblerd-monitor had to be killed twice, I don't like that feature

open session and startup and uncheck tumblerd-monitor to prevent it from running without affecting tumbler itself.

tumblerd generated thumbnails for several applications, including thunar and ristretto (if that's installed).

the tumblerd-monitor is supposed to catch when tumblerd is running out of control, kill it, then restart it. the result is high cpu usage until whatever tumblerd is indexing is finished, but on the other hand without the monitor tumblerd would lock up the filemanager.

in 4.14 Xfce has made some changes to tumblerd. I hope they addressed the high memory usage, as the tumblerd-monitor is kind of a hack.

I have often experienced the same problem. The tumbler packages are there to create thumbnails from your files.
Uninstalling tumbler and related packages has been my method since starting off with MX. It's useless to me, and I can organise my file system very well without having some sort of funny real-time thumbnail creation daemon behaving like Seti@Home.

@ak-47,
Agree.
I remove all tumbler related parts,
and my laptop is fine without it.
