Viewer Installation Problem

#1

Post by MrCast » Sat Aug 24, 2019 7:43 pm

MX is the only distro I've used that can't seem to install the Linux version of the Firestorm 64-bit Viewer for Second Life.
https://www.firestormviewer.org/linux/

Is there a way MX could install the tar.xz :alien: flile type?

When I "extract here" this is the error message I get:

And what are the two black folder icons in this Firestorm folder?

What file system are you extracting it in? Can you run Quick System Info (which runs inxi -Fxrz, wraps the results indise of

tags for the forum, then copies everything to your clipboard for you so all you need to do after running it is right-click in a reply and select "paste")?

Please edit your post above using the pencil icon to wrap the information inside of code tags. Example:
log file contents, configuration file contents and terminal text go here
Code: Select all

to make it look like this, which is a lot easier to read for large amounts of text:
1. It really stands out as being separate from the text that you're typing due to the different background and font colors
2. It also puts it inside of its own little frame with its own scrollbars, making it easier to navigate.
You can just select the text by dragging your mouse over it while holding the left button down then click the </> icon in the forum's editor's toolbar. Thanks.

Thanks for fixing that. It looks like you're running MX on a persistent live USB, correct? Or is it a small partition on your WD /dev/nvme0n1?

That is a bootable thumb-drive with MX iso, but no, it's not live, because It's been installed on the SSD where it boots.

Well, anyway it seems to be an ext4 filesystem which does support symlinks. Try running

Code: Select all

tar xJf myarchive.tar.xz
in a terminal, changing "myarchive.tar.xz" to the name of your actual archive, and see if it extracts properly.

Regarding your second screenshot, I don't see any black folder icons, just two black shell script icons.
