I was wondering if the difference he's seeing with Mepis is simply a product of Warren's kernel tweaks (e.g. to the vm.dirty_ratio, etc.). If you've got a pure deb box it would be easy enough to confirm.BitJam wrote:

And while a little GUI tuning app would be cool, it's far too dangerous for the general public unless you really understand the risks, ramifications and pitfalls. The potential for data loss is significant if you get too aggressive with these settings or don't have a UPS attached to your box.
