Saa7162 in M11 (and/or M8)?

This is a different rig to ones involving my recent threads but ! a new challenge for you super-gurus at Mepis (don't groan)!

A Pinnacle 3010x DVB-T is physically installed (and working in Win7).

[A Videomate S350 DVB-S that uses saa7133/4/5 chip- which will later also be added - has been relatively easily set up previously because required modules are partly already available by default and a little research plus suck-it-and-see did the trick acroos platforms.]

However, although seen by lspci there is no reference to saa7162 from dmesg.

Some research has taken me to what seems to be the most useful link at http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/NXP_SAA716x but am floundering with links from there!

It would seem that support will not arrive until kernel 3.17. Think that will exclude Mepis though MX-14 may have a chance in the future?

So once again my h/w is to "new" - at only 5 years old! I don't mean that unkindly, only ironically!

Ok - I get the hint! I'll try and find room for MX-14 on that rig (even before I treat it to a larger hdd than the current 250Gb "salvage")!

That's just what I'm using, officially MX14 uses a 3.12 series kernel.

Do you happen to know whether it does indeed support Saa7162 or does one need such a device actually installed to find out?

I'm not really sure how to check that.

Where did you see that it was going to be supported in the 3.17 kernel? If I knew what module was supposed to support it, I could probably check it with the modinfo command.

If it's not too traiterous to admit it, I made a similar enquiry here http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.ph ... l#lastPost - but news is regressing!

I do see that there are several saaxxxx modules in the 3.17 kernel, this is what I get when I type in "sudo modinfo saa" and press the tab key to autocomplete:

Code: Select all

$ sudo modinfo saa
saa6588          saa7110          saa7127          saa7134-alsa     saa7134-empress  saa7146_vv       saa717x
saa6752hs        saa7115          saa7134          saa7134-dvb      saa7146          saa7164          saa7185
, but no saa7162 module.

And here's the modinfo on what's closest, the saa7164 module:

Code: Select all

$ sudo modinfo saa7164

I don't really feel like trying to build the source you linked to yesterday, I don't have the 3.17 headers installed (and they're probably not installable anyway on a Wheezy base).

the saa7164 module
That's in 3.14 as well
