How to verify I booted in UEFI mode?

#1

Post by namida12 » Sat Jun 15, 2019 8:11 pm

Is there a way to determine if I was able to boot with UEFI in a system.

Code: Select all

Type: Desktop System: Micro-Star product: MS-7A39 v: 1.0 serial: <root required>
           Mobo: MSI model: B350M GAMING PRO (MS-7A39) v: 1.0 serial: <root required> UEFI: American Megatrends v: 2.L0 date: 01/22/2019

INXI -F
Does this mean I am in UEFI?

Second system shows UEFI (Legacy)

Code: Select all

Type: Desktop Mobo: ASRock model: B450M Pro4 serial: <root required> UEFI [Legacy]: American Megatrends v: P1.10

It probably does but I'm not certain. Others might know. I use the command "cat /proc/cmdline". If there is parameter in there that starts with uppercase "BOOT" then it is probable that you booted UEFI. If it is not there then you probably booted legacy.

Right, UEFI [Legacy] : this means, you UEFI firmware is running in an emulate BIOS "legacy" mode.

You can check manually the exisitence of the folder /sys/firmware/efi.

Code: Select all

ls -l /sys/firmware/efi
Within legacy BIOS mode this folder would not exists.
