Request: GZDoom

GZDoom is a FOSS source port of the classic DOOM games. It differs from chocolate-doom in that chocolate is as close to the original as possible, while GZDoom allows far more customization, graphical effects and mods. They provide compiled .deb binaries here: https://zdoom.org/downloads
You need non-free game data to play the original games, but you can also instead download freedoom which is libre.

It installs cleanly and seems to work on MX. There is also a repo here: https://debian.drdteam.org/
which I have used with success on Linux Mint as PPA but couldn't make it work properly in Synaptic Package Manager.

Do these packages work? Apparently, it's 64-bit only. It looks you should be able to use their "stable" repo address for MX, too.

Here, don't use "apt-add-repository" on MX to add their repo and its key. Run these commands instead:

Code: Select all

sudo echo 'deb https://debian.drdteam.org/ stable multiverse' > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gzdoom.list

Code: Select all

wget -O- https://debian.drdteam.org/drdteam.gpg | sudo apt-key add -

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gzdoom

For some reason, "sudo echo" is not enough to gain access to this file. You have to do it like this:

Code: Select all

sudo bash -c "sudo echo 'deb https://debian.drdteam.org/ stable multiverse' > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gzdoom.list"
but all in all, it worked.
