For the documentation of MX Linux at MX Linux Users DE Wiki I need a good tool for making the screenshots. So far it seems to be GIMP the best tool but perhaps you have other suggestions?
MX-18.3 kernel: 4.19.0-5-amd64

I use the screenshot app in MX to make them then use pinta to resize and/or edit them afterward if needed and/or save them as .jpg images, which are smaller than .png (more compression.)

Is the built in screenshot app depending on Xfce or can it be used with other Desktop Environments like Openbox or Mate, too?

I use Hotshots; it does more than the default tool.

It is available from the Popular Applications tab of the Package Installer.

I always just use the built-in stuff because I either

a) Don't know there's anything else, or
b) Find it so easy that I don't even need to look for anything else.

Ksnip. The version in the test repo has some significant enhancements over the version in main.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.
